Dorothy Scheffner is employed by the organization through the AARP's workfroce training program. AARP Workforce is a program that was set up to provide mature and experienced citizens with the opportunity to gain experience and/or training in a new profession and reenter the workforce.
Dorthy’s constant desire to help others has led her to join The Housing Advocates, Inc., where she recently completed her paralegal training. This new career follows her serving the community for 15 years as a Home Health Attendant. She finds helping others in need to be very rewarding, and takes great pride in the fact that her most recent career development efforts have helped countless individuals avoid homelessness.
As HAI’s receptionist/paralegal she constantly strives to make “getting through it” a little easier for those in need. In doing so she has learned how difficult it can be to help ease the deep anxiety felt by individuals at risk of losing access to safe and affordable housing. Dorthy has found being a member of the HAI team to be both difficult and rewarding. She has learned that such a noble task tests ones inner strengths to see things through. And in all, is proud to be a valuable part of such an important organization.
